At the centre of this painting sit three small figures — a rooster, a snake and a pig — desire, anger and ignorance, the three forces said to keep us turning within the cycle of suffering. Around them spread the different realms of existence, scenes of joy and pain, and the quiet workings of cause and effect that follow from everything we do.
This is the Bhavachakra, the Wheel of Life. You will find it not only in Tawang, but on the walls of Buddhist monasteries across the Himalayas and beyond — traditionally painted near the entrance, so that anyone who passed by, learned or not, could understand the heart of the teaching simply by looking.
The fierce figure clutching the whole wheel is Yama, lord of death — a reminder of time, impermanence, and the truth that nothing here lasts forever.
And yet it was never meant to frighten. Underneath, it carries a gentle message of hope: that through wisdom, compassion and awareness, we can loosen the hold of anger, greed and attachment, and slowly free ourselves.
At Tawang Monastery, you will find it exactly to the right of the main prayer hall entrance. So the next time you pass it, look a little longer. It is not decoration — it is an entire Buddhist teaching, offered in colour and form. A quiet reminder to live consciously, act kindly, and value the time we are given.

Summer doesn’t last long up here, but while it does. The mountains of Tawang are worth every hour of the drive.
The quiet Manis of Tawang
Across the villages of Tawang, you will often come upon these small white-and-red structures resting beside a stream, a field, or an old walking path. They are easy to pass without a second glance.
Many of them are Manis, and inside they hold a prayer wheel. Some are turned by hand, while others, like this one, are moved entirely by the water flowing beneath them. As the stream turns the wheel, the mantra wound inside it — Om Mani Padme Hum — is believed to keep spreading its blessing outward, carried along with the water into the fields and rivers of the valley below.
Here, faith is not something kept apart from daily life. These Manis stand among homes and farms and footpaths, a quiet reminder that in Tawang the sacred is not found only behind monastery walls, but in the most ordinary corners of a village.

TIMILO – Where Handcrafted Luxury Meets Nature's Embrace
In the enchanting tapestry of tribal societies, there exists a unique and sacred tradition that transcends time – the presence of a "Phu." In the Monpa language, these sacred groves are revered as the dwelling places of local deities and are considered the holiest spots in their respective villages.
Nestled in the heart of one such village lies the cherished "Timi-Phu," a sanctuary of spiritual significance. This sacred grove, located just below our property, has inspired our name and purpose.
The moniker "Timilo" gracefully takes its form from the rich Monpa culture, where "Timi-Phu" means the grove, and "Lo" signifies the sloping terrain. In essence, "Timilo" translates to the slope above the Timi-Phu, embodying the very essence of our locale.
